You experience jaw pain or ear aches or headaches and/ or restriction in mouth opening?
May be these symptoms come from the TMJ disorders. TemporoMandibular Joint is located in front of the ear and it represents the articulation between the lower jaw (mandible) and the temporal bone (base of skull). Assessment of a TMJ disorder requires detailed examination and in certain situation an MRI is needed.
Non surgical management of the TMJ problems involves the following: soft diet, moist heat application, mouthguard/night guard, stress reduction, NSAIDs and muscle relaxants.
Tooth grinding (bruxism) is surprisigly common and often happens if a person is troubled. Excessive teeth grinding causes premature tooth damage and pain. Bruxism, often occures during night sleep and lead to proplems concerning the jaw joint: TMJ disfunction. A night guard is useful in the management of bruxism.
Athletic mouth guards. Consider it, to protect the teeth, lips, cheeks and tongue from trauma, to prevent concussions and jaw fractures.
Anti-snoring appliances. Consider this simple device that will help to prevent both serious problems for the patient and inconveniences for their loved ones.
